Ok everyone I did it again, I got another toy. I had heard about these gaming systems called Wii made by Nintendo. We all remember our super Mario brothers and donkey Kong, I think Nintendo made them. About two weeks ago the assisted living community that I work at bought a Wii for the residents to use. I found myself playing bowling with them for hours. I had heard awhile ago about a new work out game called Wii Fit that was coming out. So I purchased a Wii, had it shipped to me. As the Wii was shipping I did research on-line and read that Wii Fit had actually come out that day, it was Wednesday. I called Best Buy to see if they had it in stock and they said that they did. I went to Best Buy and found the Wii Fit and right next to it was a Wii. I thought they would be sold out which is why I ordered it on-line. I wish I had done more concrete research but oh well!
Anyway, I'm sitting at home on Wednesday with my Wii Fit box but no Wii to play it. I knew the next day was going to kill me. I checked the tracking of my package as it made it to my office door, it needed a signature so I had it sent to work. The DHL man came in and asked for my signature, it was only 11am. I had four more hours of work to go before I could sneak out of there and go home to play. I ended my last hour at work that day playing Wii Bowling with the residents. Wii in hand I went home, came up to my apartment and set it up.
Now it should be stated that I am the least competitive person that I know. I actually avoid games because I don't like competing with people. It goes back to childhood issues I think but I digress. Anyway, I set the Wii up and I haven't been able to put it down. There are plenty of other things that I should be doing, like writing, reading, cleaning my apartment but I just can't help myself.
If you'd like to learn more about Wii Fit check this article on Gamespot out. So I did some more research to see if anyone has lost any weight with this thing. After reading this guys experience with Wii Fit I decided I should give myself my own challenge. So here is what I'm going to do. I'm going to do Wii Fit everyday for at least 30 minutes. I'll do a combination of yoga, strength training, aerobics and balance exercises. I'll keep a running tally of what I've done each day and at some point during the week I'll do a check in here on the website. Wii Fit tells you your BMI, your weight (although it's on a weird scale), and your Wii Fit age, which changes depending on your balancing skills. You are supposed to do a body test so I'll started with yesterday's data. I'm not going to report on actual weight just what it says I've lost or gained. I'm going to try to curve my eating but most likely it will stay the same. We'll start with yesterday's data.
May 24, 2008
BMI- 32.11
Wii Fit Age- 39
Time- 54 minutes
I went a little overboard this day doing lots of yoga poses. I found that my balance, especially when having to stand on one leg was horrible. I'm excited that I'll have the opportunity to improve balance. I also played boxing in Wii Sports and fell in love with it. It's invigorating to knock someone out in a game. I found it strangely therapeutic. I discovered that I can't do a push up or a side plank but that will happen in time. I did the running in place exercises and didn't have a problem.
I just cooked two eggs over easy with no oil. Ask me how I did it? Come on ask me? I'm waiting.....
I used a pan that my father purchased called a scanpan. We've had this pan for about a month or so now and we've cooked everything you can imagine in it, with no oil. Think of the calories that we've saved! It's amazing. Every once and awhile my father decides that he has to cook with oil so he'll put it in the pan and when he takes what he's cooked out of the pan the oil is to the side. My true test though was eggs. At work when we cook eggs, we have a problem if we don't use lots of butter on the grill. It always ends up looking greasy, nasty and gross. So this morning I got up, had a cup of yogurt with some blueberries, but that wasn't enough. I got the pan out and put it on the stove, medium heat (what my father told me only to use) and let it heat up. I cracked the jumbo eggs we had into the pan. They began to cook evenly but here was the real test. I put the spatula in the pan and the egg came out immediately. I flipped it over so the other side could cook. Then when it was done I took it out of the pan with no problem.
A couple of things you should know about this pan. You can put it in the oven up to five hundred degrees. You can use any type of utensil on it with no problem. Your supposed to wash it immediately after cooking but it really does just wipe out. If your look to save on calories I'd give this pan a try. It's amazing!
Amy was playing two shows, one at 4pm and 8pm. Now if you haven’t been reading this blog for a long time then you might not know that I’ve listened to Amy’s music for most of my life. I started when I’m eleven and I’m not anywhere near eleven anymore. Since I was driving so long I decided that it would make sense to see both shows. When Amy came out alone for that first song and began to sing my heart sank when I realized that she didn’t sound like herself. She had a cold. During the first show she mentioned many times that she had a cold but she muscled through the performance. Once her voice began to really warm up you could hardly tell that she had a cold. I won’t go into exactly what she sang because unless you’re a true fan it wouldn’t really matter. She did not disappoint, singing new never heard before songs, telling poignant stories, taking requests and singing old favorites. The first show ended sans encore but the second show did have an encore. True to Amy color she ended both shows with I Will Remember You.
My cousin J and I got to go back and spend a few minutes talking with Amy. She was gracious and wonderful, as always. There are so many great memories I’ll take away from the concert. She changed the set list at both concerts. We had orchestra seats for the first show and balcony seats for the second so we got to see two different perspectives. The staff at the MSU Riley Center was amazing, attentive and friendly. If you’re ever in the area and can go see a show there I would recommend it, just to see the theater. Below is a picture from the balcony. During the next week or so I'll share more pictures from Meridian.

Well, well, well. Here I am, so much to tell, although if you listen to my pod cast you heard a lot of it all ready. The concert in Tallahassee last night was incredible! It was so good that I'm trying to get my mother to buy tickets for the show in Pensacola and go with me tomorrow, I can't afford it.
So where to start??? I guess at the beginning. When I left you yesterday in my last post I was getting ready, after the rose bush drama. I got a text message from my friend A, who told me that she wasn't feeling well. I won't go into the details but let's just say something has been going on around here, it ain't pretty. OK I guess I have to tell this part. She had the D word. If you can't figure it out email and I'll be more graphic. She still wanted to go to the concert but with over a two hour drive to the concert venue I didn't really think it was a great idea. So I told her I was going to try to find someone else to go. I called a few people and then realized I should invite L, but I was worried she was going to have to work which is why I hesitated. I called anyway, and she said she would love to but couldn't. While I was on the phone with someone else she beeped in and said that she could go after all. I was supposed to have dinner with a friend in Tallahassee but she had another emergency so we canceled that as well.
The last time I went to see Elton I thought we had planned enough time to get there but we were still late to the show. So this time I wanted to defiantly be there on time. The ride to Tallahassee was fun, as is anything with L. We caught up on a bunch of stuff, discussed various interesting topics and sang Elton John tunes at the top of our lungs. The trip to Tallahassee was much easier than I thought it would be. Just a straight shot on Route 10. We got there, parked and got on line to go into the venue. It was about 6:50 at this time. L and I could just tell by the different groups of people in line that it was going to be an interesting concert. You would think that an Elton John concert would be full of older, more subdued individuals. You'd be wrong. This was an amalgamation of groups. We had FSU students, families, older couples, lesbian couples, gay couples. You name it, they came out to see Sir Elton John. Finally around seven o'clock they opened up the doors and let us into the civic center. We had just ridden in the car for 2 and 1/2 hours and didn't feel like sitting down. So we walked around a little bit and decided to get something to eat. We ended up getting hot dogs, which were disgusting and way over priced. We walked around some more, looking at t-shirts and deciding that they were too expensive. Finally we were ready to find our seats. We asked one of the attendants where to go, she pointed us in the right direction. We made our way down to the floor and the usher took us to our seats. They were in the sixth row on the right hand side. L and I sank into our chairs, took a deep breathe, taking in the reality that we were going to be that close!
To be continued..........
So this morning I was outside on our porch and I was walking along the edge of it where we have these beautiful roses. Have you ever stepped down with complete conviction that the ground is right where you think it is, and it's not? I did it this morning and stepped on our rose bushes. I ended up on the driveway with many thorns in my leg. It's not a pretty site. What was even more depressing is that it is a beautiful day today and I was planning on wearing shorts to a very special event! It's none other than Elton John night! Tonight is the night that I'm traveling to Tallahassee to see the musical legend perform, in what I think are, sixth row seats. The weather is beautiful, it's in the eighties, the sky is blue, I'm psyched.
My friend A will be here in an hour and a half to pick me up so I'm going to go get dressed, showered and all that fun stuff. I'm going to bring my camera, although I'm very touchy about taking pictures while people are performing. We'll see how it goes. I will report more tomorrow!
Bye for now!
